Mothers Day Make up Looks
Make up for Mothers Day

Mothering Sunday is the day for all Mums to be taken out and truly spoiled; chances are that you may be going out for lunch with your family. A day without chores and a nice meal out, what better excuse to dress up, put on some make up and feel special.

A light natural make up is the first order of the day with a lunch time event. The starting point for great make up is great skin. The good news is Spring is almost upon us, but there are few of us who make it through the winter without feeling the effects on our skin. So start the day off by exfoliating your face with a gentle facial scrub, this will revive your skin by clearing the top layer of dead skin cells and alleviate any dullness. Try to keep this up each week, you will see immediate results.

Remove any residue with a toner for perfectly cleansed skin, follow with a moisturiser and eye cream for your skin type. You now have the canvas for your foundation. For a light natural looking make up, deceptively, perfected foundation is the key. Select your foundation according to your skin type, the coverage you require and also the look you prefer satin through to matt. Also think about what else you want your foundation to do as the choice is endless with products having extra benefits of moisturising, anti-aging, lifting, firming, long lasting and transfer resistant. Visit a few of the make up counters and try before you buy. Test the colour by sampling on your jaw line, the one that is correct for your skin tone will disappear. Check it in daylight before buying, many brands now allow you to take away a sample, a good way of seeing if it is for you before splashing out. Your skin changes through the seasons and with age so it is worth reviewing your foundation every so often.

In general those more mature Mums out there may feel the benefit of a moisturising light reflective foundation, ones to watch are oil free and powder or cream to powder which alternatively will suit those young Yummy Mummies particularly those with oilier skins as they can emphasise a dry skin and any lines. There are lots of foundations for all skin types but if you are particularly dry or oily pick moisturising or oil free.

Apply your foundation with a brush, your fingers or a sponge. A sponge is great if you go too heavy, but take care as they can soak up your foundation. The next step is your concealer, whatever did we do without these miracle workers, fantastic for banishing dark circles, particularly good for any new Mums! They are also great for concealing blemishes, redness and any pigmentation. Mature Mums or those with dryness should select a cream or liquid concealer for under eyes to keep the skin looking fresh. Powder is great for setting foundation removing shine and pro longing your make up. For oilier or younger skins dust lightly over the entire face and concentrate on that all important T-zone. For more mature or dryer skins, less is more, just apply a light dusting over the T-zone, avoid or go very lightly elsewhere and keep it sheer.

You should now have the perfect base to add some colour, you don’t need to go too bold for a natural make up but some colour will give some definition to your look. Apply eye shadow as a colourwash to your lids; follow your foundation choice with either matt or slightly shimmery eye shadow in neutrals such as soft beiges, brown/pink or even mauve. Add a touch of mascara. Add blusher to the apples of your cheeks either cream or powder. Cream is flattering on mature skins and if you can’t forgo the powder, put the cream blusher on first.

Finish the look with a lip stick or lip gloss choosing a colour similar to your natural lip colour. Matt lipsticks can be drying so are best for the younger Mums out there or wear over a lip balm. A gloss or touch of gloss on top of a lipstick can be flattering on those more mature.

Now you look far too good to do the dishes!
