A Winter Wedding
A Winter Wedding

The wedding season has extended well beyond the summer now with many brides selecting a winter wedding over one in the summer months. A Winter wedding is a chance for a bride to express a dramatic personality in styles and themes with full on glamour or cosy and romantic with log fires providing an evocative back drop to the event. Think castles in the country, candles on wrought iron stands and mulled wine.

Colour is a popular choice for some brides now particularly for a Winter wedding, though colour is a great option all year round, Spring Summer seas more of the pretty pastels with the dramatic hues making more of an appearance in the Winter months. Crimson red, deep burgundy, russet and aubergine set the scene with rich golds in attendance, white, silver and platinum are options for setting the wintery scene of snowflakes with lots of Swarovski crystals to bring in the sparkle.

There are options of course to keep with the ivory or white, but who could resist bringing in the stronger colour, if not in the gown as accents in trims and bouquets or even the bridesmaids dresses. Many dresses are sleeveless or off the shoulder and may command some warmth for outside photographs. Think of faux fur wraps or shrugs, or even a dramatic cape or coat in a rich heavier weight fabric such as velvet.

The selection of flowers really is the signature of your wedding day style and although you may be guided by the seasonal blooms there will be a colour choice available to compliment your theme from white orchids and roses to colourful gerberas with the chance to bring in some Winter red berries and ivy.

Whatever time of year you choose to get married your make up really should be a more polished and more glamorous version of what you normally wear, rather than a new dramatic look. However, getting married in the Winter time will mean that you will have a shorter day and less daylight, so unless you are getting married early in the day the light will not be as strong as in the Summer and if you are getting married mid to late afternoon you will have the perfect opportunity for more glamour and a little more drama.

A make up application for the late afternoon and into the evening needs to be a more defined look, than the subtle look of a summer or the morning bride. The flash of the camera will wash out colour so make your look more defined with a stronger lip colour or eye make up; such as a Smokey eye which can be done in light to medium depth colours. You could even go for false eye lashes to complete the look giving absolute drama. Experiment with any looks well before your big day or book a make up artist who will be able to create the look for you. Live in your look and have it photographed to see the effect on camera before the day.

There is no less planning required for a Winter’s wedding, although you are less likely to be disappointed by the weather as you won’t be expecting glorious sunshine, although a little of the latter may be more likely than some sociable flakes of snow!
